Application Process
The application process for ECG consists of a short online application and a group case interview to evaluate your interest and fit for the club. We welcome all candidates from HKU, and we follow a holistic approach when considering applicants. Please read below for more details.
Online Application
At the start of each semester, we open our online applications for all HKU students. You will have to submit your most recent CV and answer all the application prompts. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to our second-stage group interviews. Please note that using AI to answer our prompts is strongly discouraged, and there will be a strict penalty if we find out your responses were flagged for AI.
Group Interview
You will be given a case and asked to solve it alongside your interview groups. We evaluate applicants based on the relevance of their solutions, their ability to collaborate with others, and their thought process. Please note that not all the information will be provided in the case itself, and it is expected that applicants ask clarifying questions during the discussion time to receive further information.
Accept Your Offer
Successful applicants will typically receive their formal offers via email within 5 business days after the day of the interview. You will be given around 3 days to accept your offer, and we hope you will enjoy being an ECG consultant!
Sample Case Interview Prompt
To provide a better sense of what the group case interview prompt might entail, here is a sample case that we have used in a previous application cycle:
CyanHills Hospitals (“CyanHills”) is a network of private healthcare facilities operating primarily in urban areas of South America. The company has built a reputation for high-quality inpatient services but is now facing challenges from rising healthcare costs, an aging population, and increasing demand for accessible medical care. With a focus on preventive medicine and patient outcomes, CyanHills aims to integrate digital health solutions to improve efficiency and reach underserved communities.
CyanHills has engaged The Eureka Consulting Group to design a forward-thinking initiative that incorporates telemedicine and remote monitoring technologies into its existing operations. The goals include enhancing patient access, reducing operational costs, and improving overall health outcomes while maintaining compliance with regional healthcare regulations.
As consultants at The Eureka Consulting Group, your main task is to craft a 5-year digital transformation strategy for CyanHills. This strategy should cover key areas such as Technology Integration, Staff Training, Patient Data Security, and Partnership Development.
- Current market: CyanHills operates 15 hospitals with an annual revenue of $500 million; telemedicine adoption in the region is at 25%, with competitors like HealthNet leading at 40%.
- Challenges: High initial investment costs estimated at $20 million; data privacy laws vary by country, with strict penalties in Brazil.
- Opportunities: Government subsidies available for digital health projects up to 30% of costs; potential partnerships with tech firms.
- Financials: Projected ROI of 15% in year 3 if adoption reaches 50% of patients; patient satisfaction surveys show 70% interest in remote consultations.
- Competitors: HealthNet has reduced wait times by 40% via telemedicine; local startups offer affordable apps but lack integration with hospitals.
